Kiko is now looking for her forever home!
Where do we start with our darling Kiko? For those who follow us, she was part of the Dudley colony we’ve been supporting with during the last few months.
Although not always on the site, when she was, she’d be there amongst all the others enjoying tucking into the food that had been kindly left for them all. A welcome treat as they struggled with such hard living conditions – as you can see in the video below.
We always knew it was her, she didn’t have a collar but instead a huge, faux silver chain round her neck. Seeing this made us even more determined to get her to safety, as any true cat lover will understand, having this around a cat’s neck is beyond dangerous.
Initially, we thought we were dealing with a roaming unneutered tom, although one evening, when we were beginning to give up hope of getting all the cats to safety, she went into the trap and we soon realised we had a female on our hands.
She was rushed to our vets for a thorough check over and all routine work carried out.
She had a few little lumps on her chin which we had biopsied - thankfully these came back as benign, so we have no concerns there.
Kiko is a gentle, sweet natured soul, she is very calm and has showed no signs of aggression in foster care. Her guesstimated age is 5, based on teeth condition.
Initially Kiko showed signs of allowing human interaction, so we decided, as we had with some of the other cats in the colony, to bring her into foster care with a view to finding her a forever home, within a home.
We have had all the very best of intentions with her, however as time has progressed she has struggled within her designated foster space. Whilst she will still allow fuss and interaction, she doesn’t particularly engage with the this. The reality is, she’s struggling with cabin life and we need to find a way to help her.
We really think Kiko will benefit from being in a home environment, so we are now seeking this with a view to moving her when she is completely rehome ready (mid-end March).
Kiko is a shy girl so she will need a room of her own to settle and acclimatise, where her new owner(s) can go and sit with her and give her fuss and attention on her terms, allowing her to get used to these interactions in her own time and slowly build up trust. It will take time, but the journey will be so incredibly worth it.
An adult only or with older children only please, however, we will consider homes with pre-existing cat(s) and dog(s) if they are relaxed and cat friendly. Introductions must be held much further down the line when Kiko is settled in her new environment herself please. Slow and steady for our little girl.
The colony cats and Kiko have had to endure a life no animal should. We have managed to find rural homes for many of them and for the select few who wanted human interaction we are in the process of finding their happy ever afters too. Kiko, as they all are, is so deserving of love.
If you feel you could offer Kiko the solace she so desperately needs, to enable her to flourish, please complete our adoption form
Please note with the increase in cost of veterinary treatment we now require adopters to take out relevant insurance - we will provide more information during the adoption process. Every cat deserves the opportunity to be provided with the required veterinary treatment should they need it during times of illness or injury.
